Title Tag and Meta Description Checker Tool Build

A focused title tag and meta description checker that reads a page's visible snippet signals, shows a SERP-style preview, samples internal pages for duplicate metadata, and gives practical rewrite examples without pretending Google will show the exact text.

The Problem

Title tags and meta descriptions are small fields with outsized impact. They help search engines understand page intent, but they also decide whether a human searcher sees a useful result or a vague CMS template.

Most snippet tools over-focus on character counts. Length matters, but a perfectly sized title can still fail if it does not name the service, market, page purpose, or reason to click.

The Build

I built the checker as a public Astro tool backed by the existing SEO tools API. The front end collects a URL plus optional target service and market fields, then renders the title, meta description, H1, canonical, Open Graph tags, duplicate sample signals, and a SERP-style preview.

The API fetches the submitted page, extracts metadata, samples a small set of internal links for duplicate title and description matches, and returns findings with practical rewrite examples. The output is built for a business owner or SEO lead who needs to know what to fix first.

The Product Decisions

The tool is careful about what it can prove. It reads what the page exposes, but it does not claim Google will show the exact title or meta description. Google can rewrite snippets based on query and page content, so the UI frames the preview as a working approximation.

Optional service and market fields make the checker more useful for local service pages. If the user supplies those terms, the tool can flag whether the snippet is specific enough for the searcher it is supposed to win.

The Takeaway

This tool turns a common SEO cleanup task into a fast diagnostic workflow: extract the snippet, judge clarity, catch obvious duplication, and give the user a better direction for the rewrite.

It also fits cleanly into the broader tool suite. The title/meta checker handles search-result messaging, while the service page checker handles page substance and conversion signals.
