NAP Consistency Checker Tool Build
A local SEO checker that compares submitted business name, phone, address, and optional GBP URL against what a website actually shows in visible text, contact-page signals, tel links, and LocalBusiness schema.
The Problem
Local SEO depends on trust. If a business website shows one phone number, schema contains another, and third-party listings repeat an old address, search engines and customers both get mixed signals.
Most small businesses do not need a giant citation platform just to catch the first layer of inconsistency. They need to know whether their own website is clearly saying the right thing.
The Build
I built the NAP checker around the website-first layer of local SEO. A user enters a URL plus optional business name, phone, address, and GBP URL. The API fetches the page, checks visible text, extracts phone links, reads JSON-LD schema, and looks for a contact page when one is discoverable.
The result separates business name, phone, address, and schema signals into individual cards, then gives findings that explain what is missing or mismatched.
The Product Decisions
The tool is explicit about scope. It does not check Yelp, Google Business Profile, data aggregators, or every directory on the internet. That would require a different product and different data access.
Instead, it focuses on the controllable foundation: the business website. If the website and schema disagree, every downstream citation cleanup effort starts on shaky ground.
The Takeaway
This tool turns a local SEO audit staple into a usable first-pass check for business owners and consultants.
It also supports the broader content system around local search: NAP consistency articles, schema education, and speculative audits where citation conflicts explain real visibility gaps.
What I Built
- Astro tool page with website, business name, phone, address, and GBP URL inputs
- API-backed visible text checks for submitted NAP details
- Phone normalization and tel: link clickability detection
- LocalBusiness schema extraction and comparison
- Contact-page discovery and secondary NAP check
- Scope-aware findings that separate website checks from citation audits
- WebApplication schema, FAQ schema, breadcrumbs, OG image, and share strip
