Taking a brand-new site to #1 for the search my ideal clients use to find me
In spring 2026, I repositioned bree-sharp.com around the exact commercial search a Kentucky business would use to find someone like me: freelance seo consultant kentucky. The site started young, low-authority, and late to the market. In about three weeks, the flagship tracked term moved from #17 to #1.
The challenge
A new, low-authority site trying to win a category established agencies already owned.
Kentucky SEO and its variants are commercial, competitive terms. The incumbents ranking for them are agencies with years of domain history and backlink profiles measured in the thousands. My site was young, its domain authority sat in the low single digits, and it was entering the conversation late.
The goal was not a vanity ranking. It was to own the specific, high-intent phrase a Kentucky business would type when looking to hire someone like me, and to do it on a site small enough that every gain had to be earned structurally instead of bought with authority.
The approach
Rather than chase volume, I built a tightly engineered footprint around intent - the kind of work I do for clients, run on my own site as proof.
- Rebuilt the site for speed and crawlability. Migrated to a static Astro build on Cloudflare Pages: fast, clean, and fully controllable at the markup level so technical signals are exact rather than approximate.
- Engineered an entity and topic graph. Structured the site so Google understands who I am, where I operate, and what I do through consistent schema, internal linking, and a clear topical core.
- Built bottom-of-funnel pages for real buying intent. Dedicated pages target the searches that signal someone is ready to hire, written to convert rather than only inform.
- Stood up a Kentucky geo cluster. A statewide hub plus town-level pages for Olive Hill, Morehead, Winchester, and Ashland, built to avoid duplication while owning local intent market by market.
- Optimized for GEO/AIO. Structured content so it can be cited in AI Overviews and assistant responses, not just the classic organic listings.
The result
The flagship term moved from #17 to position one. It did not move alone; the Kentucky commercial cluster climbed in the same window.
| Keyword | Before | After | Move |
|---|---|---|---|
| freelance seo consultant kentucky | 17 | 1 | +16 |
| seo consultant kentucky | 45 | 7 | +38 |
| technical seo services kentucky | 14 | 8 | +6 |
| small business seo kentucky | 28 | 18 | +10 |
| kentucky seo | 27 | 20 | +7 |
| local citations small business | 42 | 18 | +24 |
| site rescue seo | not ranking | 6 | new |
Alongside the cluster, the hometown markets stayed locked: #1 in Olive Hill, Morehead, and Winchester KY, and #5 in Ashland. Across the tracked set, ranking keywords grew from 37 to 44, with 8 terms climbing out of not-ranking entirely and 28 keywords improving overall.
Live SERP verification - June 23, 2026
Rank trackers crawl on their own cadence, so I pulled the live results by hand in a clean incognito session with a Kentucky IP, signed out, on June 23, 2026. This is where the 2026 story shows up: across the core terms, I was the first source Google's AI Overview cited.

The headline is not any single ranking. It is that, in my own category, I am the source Google's AI hands people first. That is the capability I sell, shown working in public, the same week it produced a real inbound lead.
The outcome that matters
Why it is the credential
The most honest thing an SEO consultant can show is their own site ranking #1 for the term their clients would most like to own, on a site that started with nothing. There is no agency budget or inherited authority behind this. It is the same playbook I run for clients: technical foundation, entity clarity, intent-matched pages, local clusters, and AI-answer optimization, applied to my own domain in public.
